Hey there! Seems you've reached Can't Buy Me Love--this is my creative central, where I share my art and writing with others. I'm Leslie.

I post a lot of stuff on this journal, with different levels of privacy and... publicity, I guess? You get the idea.

I post sketches, the most recent of which are public. I also have a few samples of my writing up for public viewing. For a bit more info on the characters and settings involved, check out my userinfo.

I also post links to my finished pieces, which go up on my flickr and my deviantART.

Lastly, I post studies for works-in-progress, along with most of my writing and maybe the odd worldbuilding ramble. THOSE things (and my older sketch-posts) are friends-only, so friend this journal and comment on this entry asking to be added and telling me where you heard about me, to get at the super-secret stuff. Let me know if you'd prefer to see art only or writing only; if you don't say, I'll assume you want only the art.

I'm usually pretty willing to add folks, so don't be shy!

Hey, gang, I'm back from my first year at Patrick Henry College--and I've got an announcement! I've changed my web identity all across the 'Net, for the sake of consistency and easy-to-find-ness. This journal remains as-is, but almost all my other online usernames have changed.

Here's a rundown:

In other news, once I spend a day scanning and formatting the 2/3-sketchbook I filled over the course of the semester, you can expect some sketchposts!

I may also post some writing I'd like feedback on. We'll see.

(also, new layout!)

Third update! That's all I have scanned at present. The next update will be an end-of-sketchbook update, as I'm on the cusp of finishing this sketchbook (the two I ordered from Cheap Joe's sit still in their box, tempting me. But I have one unfilled page and half-a-dozen sketches I want to clean up in this one).

Not sure when the next update will be, though... I'm about ready to hurl myself headfirst into paper-writing season.

I should warn you now that this is basically a McCandless Party.

Hey, look, another update! I had this written a while ago, and am sneaking time before evening service to post it. Whooo.

Don't know when I'll have time to reply to comments. I am actually right in the midst of MIDTERMS, so. I have been sneaking on a highly filtered flist on my personal LJ, though! I miss y'all.

This update is aaaaall Menagerie.

A man and a woman and a blackbird are one )

Stay tuned: next time it's a McCandless Party!

Yes, I hear you, I am supposed to be on hiatus! Well, it seems I had an unexpected unofficial half day (snow, school did not close, but I myself was snowed in for chapel and Western Lit), and instead of getting ahead on my schoolwork, I decided to write up some sketch-updates. Figured I'd see about the mildly obscene amount of artwork I have scanned and formatted (there is, of course, more still in the sketchbook. I'm nearly done with this sketchbook, truth be known). Then I went to the rest of my classes and, instead of getting straight to the books on my arrival home, I edited and am posting this.

Not to mention, I miss all the weird and wonderful folks around here (I miss the general Internet culture less, but eh).

Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair )

BIRD-THINGS.

Next time: 100% more Menagerie!

Not that I can tell you with any certainty when "next time" will be.

Hey, gang, hate to do this, but this semester is already shaping up to be madness. I've been brooding on this for some days, but some stuff that went down yesterday (both good and bad) really crystallized it for me. I can't balance studies, work, church, friends, family, commuting, creativity, spiritual life, and the Internet. My workload in the studies, work, and friends categories have all increased notably (and I'm always trying to improve the spiritual life one), so something has just got to give.

Yeah, guess what. It's the Internet. I'll be officially AWOL until further notice. I won't be on LJ, or dA, and maybe not Facebook either. I will be reachable by email, however, so feel free to contact me that way if you really need to (bear in mind that I'm a horrible email correspondent). I will most likely not be on MSN.

I love you guys, but the 'Net has become one responsibility/timewaster too many. So this is goodbye, for now. God bless y'all. Try not to destroy the Internet with your awesome while I'm gone.

Catch ya on the flipside.

The weirdness continues, but I broke down and provided translations of a sort. Yeah.

Okay, I admit it--I had all these scanned and formatted last week, but hated to do another mondo update which is why I've been releasing them in smaller bunches every few days.

I haven't drawn much since then, though, so there won't be another update for a while. In fact, since I'm starting classes next week, probably not for a good LONG while.

So enjoy this one while you can? )

And then at last it was over.

Since none of you asked for translation I assume that none is necessary.

Which means I will post MORE INCOMPREHENSIBLE ART POSTS.

I have found a way of writing sketchposts that is actually non-tedious. Unfortunately for you, it also renders them totally incomprehensible.

Later I may come back and add clarifying notes. Or maybe not. Tell me if you would like me to do that.

In the words of the author, J.S. McCandless:

So if you're wondering, what is this all about? It's about a story told me by a fairy as we stood on the edge of Babylon, I almost too broken and confused to understand most of his constant talk, but remembering the tale of Babylon. It's about the difference between history and make-believe, which my friend Dr. Menlove tells me is not nearly so great as we suppose. It's about finding a happy ending in spite of yourself. It's probably the truest autobiography I will ever write.

Like to read this story? An early draft version of the first chapter is still available. Just follow the friending instructions for this journal to be added to the appropriate filter. Be sure to specify that you want to see the writing!

It's a sketch-update, as I threatened recently in my personal journal! Nice big fat one, actually--went ahead and scanned more than I'd originally planned. Which is kinda good because I have a ginormous backlog. Although art happens with hideous slowness thanks to school, it DOES happen and since I don't often have time for scanning the result is a lot of unscanned stuff.

And my thoughts they surely were turned to instinct and obedience to God )
