Hey there! Seems you've reached Can't Buy Me Love--this is my creative central, where I share my art and writing with others. I'm Leslie.

I post a lot of stuff on this journal, with different levels of privacy and... publicity, I guess? You get the idea.

I post sketches, the most recent of which are public. I also have a few samples of my writing up for public viewing. For a bit more info on the characters and settings involved, check out my userinfo.

I also post links to my finished pieces, which go up on my flickr and my deviantART.

Lastly, I post studies for works-in-progress, along with most of my writing and maybe the odd worldbuilding ramble. THOSE things (and my older sketch-posts) are friends-only, so friend this journal and comment on this entry asking to be added and telling me where you heard about me, to get at the super-secret stuff. Let me know if you'd prefer to see art only or writing only; if you don't say, I'll assume you want only the art.

I'm usually pretty willing to add folks, so don't be shy!

This week I'm going back to posting drabbles, but I will continue to intersperse novel excerpts every so often.

Ladies and gentleplums, in order better to celebrate the end of the fall semester, I have decided to host a FREE MONSTER PARTY on my campus (I did this last semester, and it was pretty fun). However, not wanting to limit the joy of free monsters to the matriculating population of a small liberal arts college, I have decided to accompany this party with an online Free Monster Party on this journal.

How will this work? Remarkably like my past request events, actually! The morning of December 16th (the date of my last final), I will put up a request post on this journal, which will remain open until midnight that night, EST. By commenting on this post, you can request an adorable monster (drawn and colored in marker on a 3x11" sheet of Bristol) with a dialogue bubble exclaiming any words you would like (as long as I can fit them on the paper, you understand). I may also make originals available, if I can figure out the technicalities. Further instructions on requesting and shipping info will come with the request post itself.

In short, keep your eyes peeled on December 16th for your opportunity to acquire FREE MONSTERY ARTS!

Argh, this is a rather longer excerpt than I wanted, but each of the elements in it are really important and I couldn't bear to cut. So, you get a longish one. Things like tone and dialect need fixing, but the balance of persons is important, and this excerpt includes one of the lines that is encouraging me to actually press on to the conclusion of this cracktastic muddle.

I almost forgot entirely to do an excerpt post! EGADS.

This excerpt, whatever else you may say about it, showcases the way I switch POVs in this story. It's a bit trippy? But it needed to be that way.

Edit: Originally there was some cussin' at the end of this excerpt, but I cut it because while the draft is pretty littered with it (like it or not that's the way a guy like Linus talks), I haven't decided precisely which cusses are really needful and which will end up cut. So until revision sorts all that out, I've elected to present excerpts pretty squeaky-clean.

Trying to keep these nice and short, so I've cut a handful of paragraphs between the first and the last two.

Instead of a drabble, today I am going to share a small teaser from the novel I'm working on. My feelings about the thing are very mixed, so I'm hesitant to post it anywhere in full, but I'd kinda like to share some tiny little excerpts.

(by the way, for the record this is a bit about roadkill, so it's both sad and weird)

Therefore, Excerpt: Look Not So Fierce )

It took me just over a month, but I got all the requests drawn! I decided to post them all together in one big, image-heavy post.

But first Important Shipping Info: I have mailing addresses for [info]theillusionist, [info]dinictis, [info]orangejulies, [info]kyrahlynn, and [info]traxer. If you would like me to mail you the original of your request drawing, email me at bootheeling (a) gmail (dot) com ASAP with a shipping address. I hope to get these mailed in fairly short order. Note: there will be NO shipping costs for this.*

Now, here are all the requests!

That's Forty-Five Little Drawrings )

I'd like to say I'm going to get sketches scanned soon, but since NaNoWriMo just started and I am most definitely participating (may post a few teasers throughout the month), I can't make any promises.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this event! I had a TON of fun drawing y'all's amazing prompts, and it was a real joy to be able to bring some cheer to folks. Hopefully I'll be doing another request event before the year is out, so keep your eyes peeled!

*Tip: if you want the original, act now, because during any hypothetical future clearing-out events wherein I offer to ship people originals, I would most definitely be charging for shipping, even on these sketches. What I'm saying is, you have a limited window of time for this free-shipping deal.

Just a quick update, if you'd like to keep an eye on my progress with the Cheer-Up Requests, I'm tracking it on Listography. The struck-out names are, of course, those I've complete and posted. Those in-progress have status reports in italics. Those in bold are folks who've emailed me saying they want the original, and providing a shipping address. If a name has no formatting or notes, it's still in the pipeline and I'll get to it just as soon as I can.

It's been exciting sandwiching these requests in between projects, class reading, and midterms studying, but they've been a lot of fun! I look forward to getting to some of the super-awesome prompts I've yet to tackle.

p.s. folks on the art filter, expect another post! Since I have not had time to put together a proper public sketchpost, aheh.

I got 45 requests, which is a big fat number and just what I wanted. I'm so happy people responded; I got some awesome prompts! I've already drawn some of them (haven't scanned yet) and I'll be postin' 'em as I can! This will take a bit, of course, as I'll be doing these as breaks from studying.
